Im thinking about building a motor for my M to pull. I pull now and do ok but need a few more HPs under the hood. I still want to pull it in the 55 to 60 hp class but need a little more for the open class. Any suggestions on building the motor for that?

You will get better and more advice on the YTMag pulling board. Chad S will have plenty advice and some performance products.

Go with the 4" fire crater piston they are the stock piston size for the super m / 400 =264cube stock is 248cube. Have the valves ground and have it decked too, this will raise the compression some as well. for the cam have it ground to 450 specs. You can also put in electronic ignition. the carbs main metering jet can be drilled out too. these are some of the basic things you can do. this will get you from 38-40hp to 45-50hp. if you want more then hp then you can bore the block to except 450 pistons 4 1/8" = 281 cubes, that will get you anouther 4-6hp. for more power your looking at a stroker crank and rods very expensive 2000 plus. it all depends how much you want to spend. 800 or 3000 +
