Its kind of hard to explain a quad ring with out drawing you a picture of one, but you end up with 2 sealing surfaces on the inside and 2 sealing surfaces on the outside of the ring, giving you double seals.: all most but squezzed to gather. Hope this helps. JLE

[Where I purchased my quad seal the parts man at the counter had a larger one that had been cut into and he explained why they were much better with the four sealing edges. I purchased some extra incase I have to replace the rear seal. Again thanks to all for helping me solve my problem. My charlynn unit is one of the really early models. I looks very similar the modes 217 and 227 - but mine doesn't have the 2 large o-rings to seal the middle parts where the gears are. (not the correct term) On my unit the surface are just well machined parts but still work. James

I just found regular o rings for my torque generator and they worked perfectly. Not a drop comes out. I have the under the hood mount Saginaw pump and did the same there. Entire system is totally leak free. I did have to hand fab a pump cover gasket from an inner tube as no one seems to have them.
