H countershaft bearing retainer removal?

I am trying to pull the front bearing retainer so that I can replace the seal and gasket on an H and so far it doesn't budge. The nut is removed and the retainer spins but does not pull off. It seems to me that it should slide off the shaft pretty easy as there is no way to get a good grip or a tool on the retainer.

Anyone have a similar experience that could offer some advice? Seems like a common issue that many would have addressed at some point with an old Farmall.

The countershaft is the lowest shaft in the access hole (driving the Liftall pump if equipped).
The drive coupling needs to be taken off of the shaft to access the seal. Lefty loosy with a 1/2" square steel bar or piece of 1/2" keyway welded to a socket. Tractor in high gear and blocked to allow high torque to be applied, they are real tight.
If it is the upper one (above that, it is the input shaft, and has a drive coupling to the clutch shaft on it. ??? which is it. JimN

Wow, thanks for the fast response!

I am working on the countershaft drive.

The coupling and nut you are referring to are already removed. The flange that holds the seal will not pull out.

I think it should, There could be wear on the inside of it snagging the ID so as to make it tough. Look at the pictures in caseih.com.
Choose north America,
at the top of page, go to parts and service then parts.
Then on the next page select --begin your search here.
Then in the box put Farmall
Scroll down to H. Select chassis. JimN
