This may sound like a REALLY basic question, but I have never worked on a tractor that had a magneto before and don't know what one looks like. I wanted to order a tune-up kit and I get hit with the question..."is it a distributor or a magneto?" I go out and look at the tractor and it LOOKS like a distributor, horizontal with what looks like a coil alongside it. Can someone tell me what to look for so I can call Steiner in the AM and tell them what I need?

Looks like the I-H dist. Look and see if you can find an I-H number onit. The Delso-Remy stood uprite. Doesent look like a Prestolite. Of course the points areent the same or the cap and on and on..Are you sure you even need a kit maybe new plugs would be the answer. Have you advanced or retarded the dist to see if it starts better mite need to do that.

You're probably right, Jim, but I got one shot at a free trip to Steiner tomorrow...have to drive right by it. NAPA stores around here are NOT what they are in some of the other parts of the state. Been over there many times and not once have they had what I needed. I'll play it safe this time so I don't end up paying an arm and a leg for shipping and losing a week.

Yup, I know. I lurked around some of the other forums. We talked about deer hunters just last weekend on one, I think. I am down in Livingston county. About half way between Detroit and Lansing. A little built up around here now but I manage to keep a couple old tractors working on the odd field here and there!
