Farmall wiring harness kit

Does anyone know if there are kits for all the electrical wiring harnesses on farmalls? All the wires on my A are in very bad shape because all of the wrap is coming off of them. Can you use something to just re-wrap the wires?

If the insulation is falling off the wires, they're best off being replaces. If the loom that covers several wires to kame a harness is falling off, good old electrical tape is as good as anything to keep them behaving in an orderlly fashion and bundled up out of harm's way.

As far as harnesses, CaseIH sells them as do many other vendors (maybe even the store here on YT -- link at upper left). Those will be in the modern materials, generally good quality. You'll have to watch what you're asking for - not everybody sells the whole kit. You might find the generator harness sold separately from the ignition harness . . .

For full kits, specialty goods made of vintage materials (cloth loom instead of plastic . . .), Brillman's (brillman.com) and Agri-Services (wiringharnesses.com) both are regarded as providing excellent goods and service.

Your best bet is to buy a whole new harness. Talk to Jim at www.wiringharnesses.com He'll treat you right.

The ones I obtained for my Super C were from Lloyd Bigler and were of exceptional quality. Every terminal was marked with where it attached and the materials looked like originals in every way. The piece of garden hose which covers the cable from the battery to the starter switch was the exact type and style as the original which was still on my tractor. They are made to your tractor's serial number if there were changes at specific points in its production. The latest contact information I had for him was phone no. 319-352-4142 in Iowa. I believe several of the top end restoration vendors also have access to his wiring cables and harnesses. I think you would be very pleased if you are looking for original style replacements, Hal.

Try Porch Electric at 815-368-3230 for the best quality, industrial grade built, IH harnesses availible.

They can custom make a harness for you too. The harnesses at Porch are made using IH blueprints for absolute accuracy. I have no idea how the others get their basestock information.

Porch Electric bought out Bigler a year or two ago.

I got mine from Farm Country out of Oshkosh. They were the cheapest by quite a bit and it is a VERY nice harness. It came well labeled and made of cloth braid with original tracer colors.
I know Pilot Knob makes them as well. OEM TRACTOR PARTS SUCKS, but that should go without saying.

Thanks Ken for the information on where Lloyd Bigler went. I looked in the last couple of issues of Red Power and didn't see his ad any longer. When I purchased mine a couple of years ago I spoke to him directly on the phone. They were certainly a nice and complete set as I got everything. Hal.

Also purchased a wiring harness for my 350UT from Lawrence at Farm Country. It was very well made and marked....my son used to install lights, sirens, etc on police and ambulance vehicles and even he was impressed.
