Super A or just plain A ?

While driving today, I passed a Farmall with the Super A decal on the hood...but it had a hand lift, with a rockshaft where the Super A hydraulic lift unit would've gone. Up until now, I thought ALL Super A's had live hydraulic lift...was I mistaken, or could that be a plain A with incorrect decals?

It wouldn't be the first time that someone put Super decals on a plain letter series tractor because they had the engine rebuilt with oversize pistons, and were told that made it a "Super."

It wouldn't be the first time someone put Super decals on a plain letter series because that was all they could find.

It wouldn't be the first time someone put Super decals on a plain letter series because they thought their tractor was "super" like Superman, as in strong and powerful.

There's nothing saying that someone didn't remove the hydraulics and replace them with one of the many hand lifts available for an A. It could be a Super A, but most likely, it isn't. The only way to tell is to check the serial number and casting codes. If the serial number is over 250,000, and the casting codes are "R" series or later on all the castings, it's a Super A.

If it has this long lever shown in the pic for raising implements its a Farmall A. Hal

Are there any differences in a regular A and a Super A besides the hydrolic lift? I have a 1946 A that has a hydrolic lift that must have been taken off from a Super A tractor. So would my tractor be considered an A or a Super A?

Plain A had the C-113 engine...Super A had the C-123. So if your plain A has the C-123 sleeves and pistons, than yes, you apparently have the functional equivalent of a Super A. But the serial number will give you away every time.

Super A-1 had the C123, Super A C113, although the later SA with the 354898 block (Same as Super A-1) had thicker sleeves to reduce it to C113.
