Farmall M exhaust

I have a '41 M and the exhaust manifold has two "things" coming out of it. 3/4 inch pipes are threaded into the manifold and at the end is an aluminum piece that is about 6" tall, hollow, and stuffed with foam. The stickers on these aluminum parts say "Turbo Stack." I have never seen anything like this before and cannot find any information at all about them. I assume that it helps keep exhaust temps down or helps the exhaust breathe better but I am unsure. If anyone has seen this or knows anything about it I would greatly appreciate the info. Thanks.

I've never seen nor heard of such a thing, unless it is part of an "exhaust whistle". Is there anyway you can post a picture?

If in the exhaust side of the manifold as you say, they are designed to artfully remove money from someones wallet. They are like turbo fuel mixers and carb infusers and vapor mixing chambers and hydrogen generators and (ad infinitum) leave them on, or take them off and plug the holes) I would mount them on a board and use them for candle holders. Much more intrinsic value. JimN

You better be careful!!!! I don't think rusty is one of 'em but there is some awful thinned skinned contrary types hanging around. You could start a page long controversy with an idle comment.

(quoted from post at 09:17:52 11/16/09) Exhaust whistle, he sez! LOL!

Don't laugh too loud. Such a thing does exist although they were much more common in the days of the Ford Ts and As. I've never seen one on a tractor, but anything is possible.

any way you could post a picture of it. sounds like an interesting doo-dad. pretty amazing the aftermarket stuff that was available for the old tractors. there was an aftermarket evac system for hot rod cars called a u-vac if i remember. it had a fitting that welded in to the exhaust header and the other end hooked to the crankcase vent. it would use a vaccuum created by the exhaust to pull crankcase vapors out of the engine instead of a pcv system. dont know if thats what it is, but who knows??

I agree that it was probably just to get your money but it is interesting and seems to be rare. Here are some pictures.
