Super A Water Temp Gauge

I am going to replace the hydo temp gauge on my Super A.
It looks to me like the probe goes into the bottom of the hydro reservoir below the gas tank. Will it leak a lot when I change the gauge?
Why are hydro temp gauges so expensive and where can I get a good price on one?
Thanks,
Dell

Whoa!

You're talking about two different temp gauges.

The lead from the middle of the filter cover on the hydraulic block is for hydraulic fluid temp. That runs to a gauge mounted near your hydraulic controls.

Your probe for your coolant temp gauge, if the tractor even came with one, will be in one of two places, either in the upper outlet between the head and the radiator or in the lower inlet between the radiator and the crankcase. I'll take a look at the Parts Book here shortly, cause I don't know if they mopved the coolant temp gauge on the super a back to the seat. On the As and Bs, it was mounted to hang off to the side of the governor.

On the CAseIH site, they show the coolant temp gauge being mounted on a bracket by the generator, with a short lead from the gauge to the lower inlet, just as on the A.

I had a feeling from where the probe was located that it was not a water temp gauge. It is rusted unreadable. So I posted the question to find out.
So I quess there will be leakage when I change it.
Are they gauges available and where is a good place to get one.
Thanks,
Dell

I got mine for the SuperC from Bermuda Ken at Carter and Gruenewald. It was $60 back in '01. I'm sure that price has gone up since then. OEM has them in their catalog for $86. I'm sure there are others, but those are the two sources I can come up with. Steiner's may have them, as well.

By the governor, like I said the first time, not the generator like I typed the second time.

Honey! More coffee, please!

Dellbertt,
Yes, the Hydro temp probe is the one going into the touch control tank.
When you remove it, you will be draining the fluid out, according to the owners manual, approx. 6 3/4 pints.
The 4 bolt plate where the probe mounts is also the strainer for the hydraulic fluid.
I replaced both of these on my 53 Super A this past spring, I don't recall the prices, but Scotty's OEM price, I think was a little higher than I paid at my local CNH dealer.
