Sediment Bowl Leak

My sediment bowl is leaking where it screws into the bottom of the gas tank.
What is a good gas sealer to put on the threads so it won’t leak.
I have some old black non-hardening permatex I guess that might work.
Thanks,
Dell

Teflon Tape melts when exposed to gasoline.
A friend is having to clean is entire fuel system on his airplane because he used teflon tape on a connection on the outboard tank.
It turns it into white slimy gunk that plugs the system. I saw it.

Just go to NAPA or any auto parts store and get thread sealer that has gasoline listed on the back of it.
Permetex RTV silicone is no good with gasoline.
True-Valu hardware stores sells thier brand Master/Plumber Yellow Formula 55 that is rated for gasoline.

Since you have the thing out of the tank, run a tap through the threads in the tank, and preferably purchase a new bowl. That way it will last at least half as long as the OEM one did. I am always leery of trying to fix the old one. Chances are the threads are shot. I usually use teflon tape on them, just not a big glob of it, or problems may occur as you noted. It only takes one round.

When I had the bowl out I noticed there was no screen on the top end that goes into the tank so I made a quick run to the local tractor shop and got one.
I cleaned the threads on the tank and bowl and added Permetex Non-Hardening Gasket and screwed it in.
It was still loose on the threads when I got it lined up with the line connection so at another 1/4 turn it was tight, but not lined up.
So I kept turning, at 1/2 turn it felt tighter than I liked but sloooooowly I turned it the other 1/2 turn to get it lined with the line again.
I thought sure the threads would strip but they didn't.
Put gas in it last night and today it is all dry and clean and looks terrific.
I usually fix something like that right away but with a lot of things going on I had let it slide. Wasted a lot of gas doing that. Feels good knowing I'm not burning gas while I sleeping.
