Farmall H valve setting

im looking for some advice, i replaced the head gasket on my farmall H, the intake and exhuaust valve gap settings are both .017 , do i set the valves cold right after it is all assembled , or do i check them cold, start it and run it till it warms up, shut it down and then set them. any info would be appreciated, thanks kurt

Warm it up and retorque head and reset valves to .017.

Set then at 0.20" cold and then check them when hot. The problem with the 0.17" hot setting is that the engine probably will never get quite that hot unless you work it VERY hard.
