Early Case IH Light Up Dealer Sign Aprox. Value??

I have an early Case IH light up dealer sign that I am trying to find the approx. value of. It is 4ft x 8ft and has the pole. The logo part of the sign seems to be a vinyl type material that is in good shape. The outer casing is aluminum I believe. I have not gotten the sign out of the barn to take a picture but I have attached a picture of the type of logo that is on it. Has anyone seen one of these sell or is it too large for the average collector?

As an observer at auctions, that's the kind of thing that always takes my breath away when the hammer falls. Age, condition, and size are important. Older is better and "size doesn't matter". By that I mean it can never be too big. Most collectors have barns and the biggest sign will fit inside.

If you are selling, I would put it on eBay with a reserve price of $2000. It should bring more than that. You could also wait until someone has a large IH liquidation sale conducted by a prominent auctioneer. Ship it to him several months before the sale. You have considerable value there.

As an H & M owner who also works in a sign shop, if a sign like that came into our shop, it would likely have the faces pitched in the dumpster and the cabinet hauled to the local salvage yard for scrap metal. $2000 is excessive for a sign that is at least 15+ years old. If someone saw it in our boneyard and offered us $500 (or even less) as is, they"d own it.

But as they say, one person"s junk is another"s treasure.

Now that is what drives the price up for old signs and other artifacts of the past.

Another reason why there are getting to be less old tractors, and farming equipment,,, It's just junk, cut it up, haul it to the scrap yard, and send it to China..
