SM/400/450 brakes

Are the pinion bearing carrier/inner brake housings the same on the SM, 400, and 450? I got a set for a 450 off ebay last-minute then wondered if they will fit my SM. They are flat on the braking side, the ones on my SM have been milled about a 1/4 inch where the disks should ride against them. If they fit I hope that they will allow me to eliminate the steel plates I have between my brake housings and the carriers, and help keep them from locking.

Yes, you are OK. My SM-SMTA book and my 400-450 book use the same part number for the

CAGE, Bull Pinion Shaft Bearing, w/Ring

left side is 357 032 R11
right side is 357 033 R11

Thanks. I will have to take a picture of my current ones. It seems someone milled them at some time for some reason.

Not sure if I got it right as to what is milled on, but usually mill work on those things is a result of needing to compensate for wear on the non replaceable outer wear parts. When the balls in the spreader get away from the beginning part of the ramps, they don't work well at all. Narrow things up and all is well again.

The Pinion bearing cage (?), the part that slips into the rearend housing and holds the gear in. It looks like someone drew a circle on it of the outer brake housing, then milled about a 1/4 inch off, where the brake disk should push against it. I'll have to take a picture.
