Insurance woes continue

I thought I had my insurance issues all resolved by going with J.C. Taylor. Well, they will cover the tractor with liability insurance. No problem. I can even use it in parades. No problem.

The problem, that wasn't explained to me when I originally spoke to them, is that I can't PULL anything with the tractor! Are you kidding me? It's a tractor! But they won't cover me if I'm pulling anything. I have to sign a paper that says I won't pull or haul anything or any one!

Unbelievable!

I've called Grundy, they don't cover tractors. Hagerty, they won't cover pulling. Farmers, State Farm, Allstate, USAA... all a no go.

One possibility of hope I have is with Westpoint Insurance Group. I just got an application for single event insurance. Hopefully it will be cheap enough to keep my plans alive.

Mike,

I have my insurance with Hagerty. I think they had a problem with a pulling tractor, but not if you were pulling a trailer.

look in red power or green mag I can't remembe the name but it sounded good and cheap. They only cover on the road if your going to a show and your not covered when you hook to a pulling sled and when you unhook your covered again. hope this helps.

Have you checked with your auto insurance? They may cover you with a "Rider."

Also make sure of their definition of "Pulling!" They may cover you if you are "Towing" a trailer.

They specifically told me I could not pull a trailer, float, or anything else in a parade. I could only have the tractor in the parade alone.

Move in beside me,we dont have that problem here. When we pull at the club pulls we are covered buy the insurance we buy when you join up,15 bucks a year. Hoss

The joys of living in Calif. Surprised you can even drive a tractor in town for whatever reason as you certanlly aint farming

I used to think lawyers were the bottom feeders but I've decided insurance agents are. Mine cancelled me when I added a plow to my pickup for personal use. 15 minutes later I had insurance over the internet with Progressive with the plow and cheaper to boot. I told him so and he said, wait till you have a claim and need an agent. I told him with an agent like him same as having none so what's the differnce. These insurance agents better start serving thier customers or look for other employment.

TomH in PA is right. Tort reform is what is needed and that will take away the excuses for the insurance companies.

Hello Mike - I guess I kind of started this mess. Our homeowner's policy covered the use of the tractor as long as it was not for farm use (would need farm liability policy). Now since I kept the Case SC in town and I rent my ground to my cousin, who has farm insurance my agent said we were ok. This is all in Indiana. However, because we travel a lot with our boat we also bought an additional "umbrella" policy for $200.00 per year for "any additional catastrophic" accidents. The rate on this policy went up when my daughter started driving last year. I agree, ya can't win - but I think you still need to know you have insurance coverage if you are going to have hay rides, etc. Good luck.

Mike,I was just turned down by them.I was trying to insure a 1949 chevy pick-up and they turned me down becaues it was in primer and not painted.I dont understand it

Are you a member of a tractor club? Our local club has insurance that covers us at any function the club participates in.
Two clubs. But this particular parade, and other events that I wanted to do with the Navy, aren't club santioned events. If it's sanctioned, then their insurance covers you. However, I need to find out if there are restrictions to that, like "you can't tow, pull, or haul anything".

Being that I'm lazy and that most stuff is typed faster than I can read, I'd go to whoever organizes parades in your area, say, who's gonna pull the float with the watermelon (grape or whatever) queen. Chances are it's gonna be pulled with a tractor. Ask that person who covers them and go from there. Shouldn't be rocket science. Would a personal liability insurance for yourself do the trick?

Is there a local vegetable farmer you could "lease" the tractor to for the day for advertising purposes, so their insurance might cover it?
