Farmall F 12 volt conversion

I bought this F with the conversion alredy done. I am having to replace the starter and was wondering if I needed 12 volt or 6 volt?

If it uses a 12 volt battery Id buy a 12 volt starter (and see next Para.), but if it uses a 6 volt battery then I would buy a 6 volt starter.

NOTE its possible to run a 6 volt starter at 12 volts, although it can be a bit tough on centrifugal Bendix Inertia type starter drives, I have recommended use of a lighter 12 volt batetry in such cases with only like 500 to 600 CCA while our friend Bob M simply uses lighter battery and ground cables like a No 2

HOWEVER you cant hardly use a 12 volt starter with only 6 volts, she would crank tooooo slow if at all under a load

Chill! Unless your new F-?? is extremely hard starting, the few revs the starter makes will not be affedted by 12 volts.

However, if you are still worried, take your starter to a repair shop and have them check it over to make sure it is fine for 12 volts.

I agree. When we first got our '37 F-20 we needed to get the starter worked on and the repair shop said exactly what F-Dean stated!

The engine really turns over fast and does not take very many turns and it's running.
