CCW magneto for ID9

the magneto is missing from the ID 9 that I am restoring. Will a magneto from a MD work? If not can it be converted to work as it also works CCW?

I think it is a bolt on deal from any gas start diesel run IH from MD on up. JimN

And you're right. They use the later H4 series mag that bolt up just like the distributor. Of course since it turns reversed from gas it must be a diesel model and will have a D at the end of the part number (Unless it has been converted with parts or the IH kit).

The 9 series gas engines also used the counter
clockwise distributers and magnetos. The gear train
at the front of the engine is similar between both
gas and diesel.

They are both counter-clockwise mags, but the advance angles in the impulse couplings are vastly different. The gas start diesel one is only a few degrees of advance, and the straight gas one is 35, IIRC.
