Comments about tractor.

I want to thank everyone for the great comments about this and
no hard feeling toward anyone at all. When I found this tractor
in PA about six years ago. Bought it and before I started
working on it. I talked to gentleman who had been working in a
IH dealer ship for over 50 year. I asked about the seat and he
stated they were sold at IH dealerships across the country. They
also installed them on their customers tractor also. I painted the
tractor with IH Red enamel in my garage. People have asked me
why did I painted the fan belt? The books that I have read that
when the tractors came down the assembly line they sprayed
everything except the regulator, magneto, distributor cap and
wires. The generator should be red also. If it is black that means
there was a problem with it and it was taken off and repaired in
their shop and painted black and put back on a tractor. I am a
firm believer in keeping it in original condition down to the
correct water hose clamps and wire loom. People ask me why I
haven't switched over to 12 volts? It didn't come out with a 12
volt system. I have ridden tractor in 3 tractor rides over 50
miles each the past three years and tractor runs great. I have
received a lot of help from everyone on this forum when making
sure I was doing it right. Thanks for all the comments and
concerns. That is what I love about having a place like this to
come and talk with others about old tractors. If I can be of any
help to anyone. That is what I want.

I am new to this forum but have received lots of help while restoring a JD A from that forum. There have been spats from time to time there too. I am just starting to restore my brother's 47 B Farmall and have been reading this forum for about a month and have printed many posts of useful information that I'm sure I will be needing soon. I have all the books and manuals including the B-238 cultivator book. He dropped off all the cultivator racks and associated pieces and a two row planter. Maybe some other stuff too. There are a couple of big plus size cultivator shoes of some purpose. My point is this. I would be proud if this tractor turns out even close to the way yours did. I try to make them as close to new as possible for history's sake, but they are farm tools and have been subjected to the human tendancy to improve things for whatever reason. Thank you for letting us see your tractor.

If you painted it in your garage and are winning shows with it you must have done a pretty nice job. I would be interested in hearing more details on how that went...equipment used, procedure, etc? Mostly a rattle can kind of guy myself.

For your info the wires were painted red. Those seats also would not have had the tool box. Some of the aftermarket seats didnot have a place for the rear lite. Dad bought me a new B in Aug of 47 the cast codes read 7+23+q i8n a couple places it was built in the Louisville factory and delivered around the 15th of August. My Brother still has it in good shape. It came with a grease gun and two open end wrenches in the tool box. Alos had the exhaust lift. Serial #s do not match. Still has original starter and generator. The original startiong crank is still in its holder.
