Farmall Loosing Power

Farmall - A, 6V+ ground with VR, excellent oil pressure, parade tractor.

Loosing power as it gets warmed up during parades and joy rides. Needs more and more gas at the throttle to do less and less. Acts like fuel but flow is strong. I’ll possibly re-torque the head I will check the 6V coil too. No obvious air leaks but it sounds like one. Thoughts? Thank you, Ken

Remove the valve cover and check the clearance gaps. Those gaps will decrease as the engine warms up. If they close up too much the valves can no longer close fully, and you will lose power and encounter rough running.

Ken - Run the tractor and SLOWLY close the choke when it starts to lose power. If you find a choke setting where the power returns - even if briefly - it's fuel flow problem.

However if choking makes no difference be looking at the ignition - coil or condenser going away as it warms up, breaker point gap set too close, etc.

Could also be a temperature-related vacuum leak (manifold gasket, etc). However if this is the case the engine will generally run poorly at speed and stall the moment you close the throttle.

Post back what you find! Bob

Hold your hand over the throat of the carburetor and see if you have good suction on your hand. If you have good suction your manifold vacuum is probably good. You may have some blockage from the tank to the carb. Pull the gas line at the carb and see if there's a full stream of gas from the tank. If it looks ok there may be a screen behind the tube fitting where your gas connects that's full of crud. Hal

Ken - Actually your A is beyond hope. Best just roll it to the curb and I'll be by with my trailer to dispose of it properly for you(!)

(Hey - what are friends for?!!!)

question as to why there is a reason to put a water pump on a thermal flow cooling system, i have a sa that i've used for 30 year's without one without any overheating problems, also ran m & mt jd's no problems especially water pumps.
