Hello
I am working on my 1944 Farmall H and the rear main seal is leaking?
What Is the easiest way to change it?
Do I have to split the tractor and pull the crank?
Is there a way to channge the bottom half of the seal?
Any help would be appreciated!!
Thanks!!

Probably a rope seal. If it is .......

Loosen all the crank bolts about a turn. Then take off the rear cap and use a plastic rod or something that won't scratch the crank and push the upper seal half out.

When you put it in they have little tools for putting a rope seal in. It's a little round web cylinder. You stick the rope in it and pull it around the crank. The seal is normally a little long, so pull it to have both ends extend past the end of the bearing cap. After you've torqued the rest of the crank caps down, trim the seal ends in both halves. Trim the ends in the block flush, but leave the ends in the cap a little long (about 1/16 inch) with a dab of sealer on them.

Then stick the last cap on and torque it down.

You may be able to get a neoprene seal for that, I'm not sure. Those are a little easier to put in.

Just re-reading your post. Guess I didn't answer all your questions.

Don't split the tractor, just take off the pan. Then do the stuff with the seal installation.

You need to split and remove flywheel. Seal is two piece felt in a retainer. Also remove oil pan.
