H, SH, M, SM Wheel/Rim Questions

Howdy, Boys:
I've got my rims off the SH to blast and paint. Prior to reassembly, two questions come to mind:
1) Will the six clamps automatically center the rims on the wheels, or is this something that has to be wrestled with?
2) Anybody know any tricks for reinstalling the rims without scratching the new paint (on the rims)?
As always, thanks in advance.

Installation is simple, compared to the double bevel rims. With care, there is considerable room to install them and leave the paint. Took me a long time for the double bevel 460 rims, but I did it without significant damage. The H/M rims etc are centered, the 460, etc are relatively easy to get off center. Put a 2x6 or something under them, and they more or less go right on.

what i do is get everything lined up and use a hyd. jack under drawbar. get the top of rim so it just pushes onto the hub, then jack up the tractor and the btm. of rim just falls into place by being pulled up with the hub. slick and no wrestling with it.install clamps and done.

i use wood shims from the lumber yard (big box store now) the ones about 1-1/2 wide by about 6 inches long. slip them between the wheel and the cast center when putting the rim on. also helps with centering up the rim
