Starter drives

Good Morning
I have been reading some posts here about starter drives, in particular the clutch type. So.. I bought one to see how easy it was to replace, and ran into this problem ....how do I remove the set screw from the new drive so I can slide it over the shaft - it is half covered by end washer.

No particular method, vise or channel lock pliars to pry washer ahead just enough to get screw out part way so it clears shaft. They are a little difficult but they will come around. As you can see, it has no overrunning clutch and is engaged by irertia so not actually clutch drive. Also, use only the small washer on drive end so as to control end play of armature.
