Leaking on a Charlynn power steering unit

I finally got everything installed on my SM for the power steering. After running it for a while I noticed a small about of fluid had dripped on to the valve cover on the front of the unit. Before I try to take it apart at the front can some one tell me what to look for? From past experience with hydraulics I would think there would be O-rings for the seal. Any help would be appreciated. James

james, check the port block where the hoses hook up. could be the pipe threads are leaking, also , could be the o-rings on the port block where it bolts to the torque generator. if you want the manuals for the char-lynn ps system shoot me an e-mail, i have them scanned on my computer at work and can e mail them to you on monday when i get to the shop.

I'm not leaking fluid at the hoses. All that is good. The leak is around the steering shaft at the front of the power unit before it couples to the steering rod.

i'll shoot you a copy of my manuals on monday, meanwhile, here is a link from the fella's on the allis board with a blow up pic of the torque genny.

I looked at pdf file that you sent and that really helps. Also the manual that you will send will be of great help. I didn't know what to expect when I removed the 7 bolts from the generator. I was expecting maybe springs and spacers to fly. Thanks to all for the great information. Have a good week - James

i got new seal kit from Agco Dealer, those O rings are flat, not round, i kept replacing them for 5 years with round ones and always leaked, got proper ones and no more leaks.

genos - it looks like you might be right. I went back and looked the exploded view on the EATON PDF file that gleenster sent me and compared to the way the other seals look it could be flat. The parts listing calls for NO. 5 - quad seal. Thanks for the info - this is my first time into one these generators and I welcome all the help I can get. James

genos - did you find the quad seals for your unit with part numbers? I removed my unit today to get the model no. etc and called the local distributor here and they couldn't find anything with the nos I give them. All I could find on my unit is MODEL S and SERIAL NO 410. If I can't get parts I might be up the well known creek. James

I could not get any help from the local Eaton dealer. I googled O-rings and come up with a lot of information about the quad o-rings. I didn't have a clue to what a quad o-ring was. I located a seal dealer here in my home town that knew all about square o-rings. At first I was a little uncertain how to ask about square o-rings. The person I spoke with ask me to bring the parts the seal went on. He measured the seat and the shaft and come back with two sizes and one was a good fit. So far no leaks. On reassemble one of the 1/4x20x2 inch bolts with 12 point head twisted into. I finally located a place close to my home that would order me new bolts. I cleaned out the threads with a tap and installed the new bolts with Anti-Seize and torqued all seven bolts 200 inch lbs. No leaks and every thing works great for now. James
