Cracked block question

I am planning to go tomorrow or Friday to look at a Farmall C a couple of towns over that says in the ad it has a cracked block, apparently visible on the surface, as the engine is still assembled. Is there a rule of thumb for guessing which cracks are repairable and which are not? I have no experience with this problem, so any advice would be much appreciated. The tractor is missing the radiator, hood, grill and one front wheel, but the rear rubber looks good in the photo and it has been stored in a garage for 30 years, I am told. Does anyone have an idea what might be a fair offer to make on it? Thank you very much.

Depending on the size of the crack, it can be repaired by a machine shop or professional welder. The exterior cracks are not as bad as interior. I would almost approach the deal as though the block would have to be replaced. That's the best I can do for you, hopefully someone else has some better info.

If the crack in the block is on the left side, about midships on the crankcase, obscured somewhat behind the carburetor if it's there, that's fairly common and easily repairable.

Loosen the oil drain plug enough to see if the first drip is oil or antifreeze (or water). If it is oil, all is good. If it is antifreeze it might have an internally cracked block. It might also just have a bad o-ring on one of the cylinders. Finding antifreeze might influence your offer and what the seller expects.

If there is no oil in it, expect the worst.

Thank you all for the advice. I went to look at it and it's in pretty rough shape. If you needed the back half of a C it would be fine, but the water jacket openings are full of crud from sitting with the radiator off for 30 years, and the block has 2 feet of welds on it. The grill looks like it was run over and there is no hood. It will make someone a good parts machine, though.
