Farmall Cub vs Farmall Lo-Boy

I met a tractor expertt the other day and I do not say that lightly, he has been buying and selling "unique" tractors all over the country and ships all over the world for over 10 years and has a warehouse floor lined with parts to prove it. He's a no nonsense talker.
Anyway, he told me if you want to make a Farmall Cub into a Farmall Cub Lo-Boy simply do this:
1. Unbolt and turn the final drives 90 degrees to lower it - that is why there are two brake rod cutouts on each final drive.
2. Cut exactly 5 1/4" out of the front spindles.
Waalaa-- you have a Cub Lo-Boy.
Or you could buy a good Lo-Boy.

The word, I believe, is "voila", but not that notwithstanding...nope, ain't gonna work. Even if it did it would not be a "Loboy" now would it?

I should have followed my own advice and checked the archives before running my fingers.
Also I knew using the word expert might not be a good idea but I had aleady clicked submit. oops.
I am not convinced this is not doable so the only thing to do is turn on the heat and open the tool chest.

And tadaa... I will know. Or is it "toida".

Delbert, the bolts are not evenly spaced and will not line up when you rotate the finals. Also, you will not have an opening for the brake rods, the openings now are front and rear, when you rotate 90 degrees, they will be top and bottom.

Yup, the two slots on the brake housing are because the final drive units are the same on both sides. Left and right can be interchanged.

However, the guy was correct about the BASIC differences between the two tractors. The final drives are indeed rotated 90 degrees forward, but they are completely different parts. The spindles are indeed 5-1/2" shorter, but again, they are different parts. There are other differences, like the steering linkages, and the fender mounting, and the drawbar mounting.
