Cub oil pump shaft loose

The shaft on the driven gear in the oil pump on my cub is very slightly loose in the block, just enough to spin the shaft in the block. The old pump gear was stuck on it. I have new gears and have buffed the shaft with fine emery cloth so that the gear spins on it properly. Question is: What to use to lock the shaft into the block. I thought about JB Weld, or possibly some high strength Loctite thread locker. Has anyone had any similar experience and a solution? Thanks, Roland

Probably depends on just how loose it is. Loctite has some products designed for assembling things that are supposed to be a press fit. Check the Loctite product specs. If there is one with specs that match your situation, use it. If it is too loose for Loctite, use JB Weld.

I would knurl the shaft where it goes into the block (only enough to increase its size to be tapped into place) and use locktite stud and bearing mount to assemble it.
Pre lube the gears with petroleum jelly (pack it full) and pre lube the oil passages by pumping them full with an oil can or drill pump. Cubs do not like to self prime. and if it has some wear, it will be even more likely to fail to prime. JimN
