The red tin shield I asked about, from the green forum.

I'm back, now this heat shield "gap" measures 8", does that help narrow it to an M or H? Or do I need to measure the hole centers? It has some rust/rot around the holes. Thanks, Paul

Hi Paul,

I believe that is for an H, but I would want confirmation from someone who has a shield. My upper posts on my manifold are 9.5" apart, so an 8 inch gap in the center should fit. But I don't know what the difference is between an H and M shield. Maybe it's hieght, not width.

For the rest of the forum: Can those holes be easily repaired? They look pretty bad, but I have no idea.

You have a M shield. The gap you measured on a H is 6 and 3/4". The largest dimension overall is 20".

I sold a perfect (and sandblasted) M heat shield on eBay for $102.50 last spring. Only two bidders. Your part could fetch $50 plus or minus what I received. Depends on who sees it.

Mike those holes are not visible when the hood is
on. Give me a couple of minutes and I will post a
picture of mine. Repairable? Yes and easily.

Yes, I cheated. The manifold is aftermarket. I have the original but chose not to use it as it leaks. The H runs better with the new part. I also prefer the screw SS pipe over the cast iron chimney. This picture doesn't show the welded repair on the top holes of the shield but they were three times the size of M heat shield above. It probably took fifteen minutes to restore both holes. BTW, that manifold is also not visible with the hood installed.

Because of the rusting out around the hole area its hard to measure but close to 10.5" to 10.75" center distance. It is some thin from rust around the hole area but the rest is solid. I should be able to get $80.00? Maybe? Paul

heck why not just make your own heat shield? shouldn't take too long and with hood on, would look good enough for functionality.
