Running into a wall. Need some help.

A friend and I built my fuel line when I got my H running again. Now I want to build a line for my starter tank. I pulled the regular line and have found out that on either end we used a 5/16th brass "Breakaway nut". OSH carries them, but not in my size. I'll have to find out if they can order one. But no one else seems to even know what this thing is!

Does a Breakaway nut go by another name? Is there any other place other than a hardware store that carries one? I tried Kragen on the tip of the OSH guy (who said old Ford's used to use them), but the guy at Kragen had no idea.

WHY don't you just get a couple of nuts from the CIH dealer?

Old IH # 29 899D

New CIH # 222-503

(About $1.59.)

Mike, You do not have to use the type of fitting with the breakaway ferrule. Yes, it is actually the compression ferrule that breaks away from the male nut. The nuts and ferrules can be purchased separately from any NAPA store and most good hardware stores.

Typically, those separate ferrules are WIDER than the breakaway ferrules on the aforementioned correct nuts/ferrules.

They are so wide the threads on the nut can't properly engage the threads in the fitting or sediment bowl.

The correct nuts are ONLY $1.59 from Case-IH, so what's the big deal???

The big deal is I'm using my own tubing to build the line from scratch. I'm not just replacing fittings on an already exsisting line.
