My dad has a Farmall 140 built in either 1959 or 1961 (serial number 14153J). It is 6 volt. Replaced battery. Took starter off and had it checked. Runs fine off tractor. Reinstall and it will not turn over. Checked ground. Check voltage at starter - 6 volts +/-. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated |

| Make sure you have large cables. Auto cables won't work on 6 volt. 0 gauge with soldered terminals. Learned from the great late Hugh McKay for my 61 140. |

| I have either a "73 or "74 140 12V, it has a solenoid for use with the key. Can"t remember if the 6V models have a key or not, if the 6V solenoid is bad the starter wil do nothing. If you jump the battery direct to the starter it "should" turn over but not start unless you have the key on, IF it uses one. IF you have a solenoid on yours simply jump across the solenoid terminals and see if it cranks, if so then the solenoid is bad. BE SURE it"s in Neutral! |

| Is the engine stuck? It wont start if the engine wont turn over. Try turning it with the crank. |
