1954 Super M diesel TA ?'s

Did they ever make a a 1954 Farmall Super M T/A diesel? I just looked @ a tractor for sale locally, it's very rusty, 3 tires hold air, it's a wide front. It runs & moves under it's own power, but, barely. It needs a radiator & sheetmetal is rusty & damaged (dented). ...but, it runs...I couldn't find any data plate. It has power steering & 9 speed M & W (?) trans... Owner "thinks" it's a 54' SMTA diesel. Is this homemade, or did Farmall make one of these?

they made 2705 of them. the lever you describe as the m/w 9 speed is the T/A lever. there worth alot over 10,000! but youll throw alot into them to bring that. the diesel is very expensive to work on but there great tractors. if the price is right grab it!
p.s. confirm that it is a true smdta by looking for all Z codes or late Y's.

If it has a true M%W 9 speed, it can't be a SMDTA or later. It can only be a M, SM, or corresponding Standard Tread in that size.

An early TA tractor has 10 speeds.

A TA tractor has a bunch of linkages and clevises on the left side of center section. It will most likely have a IPTO as well.

Sounds like we have the blind leading the blind on this deal. Both of you should know what is being sold. Start looking at SMTA pictures on this website. Either that or send us pictures. We will tell you what you are looking at.

Do you guy's know that you could get a SMTA with TA delete? That didn't make it a SM. When they went to SMTA's they were all SMTA's. You could order it without the TA. They had a round emblem that said SMTA, it didn't say torque amplifier on it.

Most of the TA deletes went to southern states. This tractor is probably in ME or nearby. I am in MA and have never seen one. Harold H can tell you why the deletes were ordered.
