I was told that the Super H has disc brakes and the H has drum brakes. Is this correct? And if so can I tell which rearend has which by just looking at the outside? I bought an H that came with an extra rearend the ole boy said one was disc and the other was drum but he wasn't sure which is which.

yes that is correct the super h's have disk and the h has band brakes. they are easy to tell apart the band brakes will have sheet metal covers on them and the disk ones will have a heavy cast outer cover. as for looking at the rear end without the brakes in place the drum brake cover will have around 6 3/8" bolts hold the cover in place. the disk brake will have 5 7/16" bolts holding them in place.

also type in super h disk and h band brake into google image and it should pop up a pic

I have a 46 H with drum and a 51 H with disc. The super H's did not come out until later. So I think the later H's could be either drum or disc.

I have a 1950 H with the Lambert disc brakes. Those are different from the disk brakes of the super H

The last of the Hs produced in 1953 were factory equipped with the same disc brakes as what were installed on the Super Hs.
