Having steering and drive problems so I removed hyd filter. very dirty. Want to repalce fluid when I replace the filter. I need to lmow where the drain plug is, all what the capacity is to refill. Thanks

well the one drain plug for the rear end is up under the drawbar if ya have three point and you will have to drop the drawbar pin and and slide the drawbar back , Then there be two drain plugs one for each bull gear (they do not fill from the main fill hole and each has to be filled thru there own fill check plug located on the side and to the rear of the axles) . Then there are two drain plugs up under the center section . And ya might as well just get 5 five gallon buckets of Hy Tran and you will be just about wright with a little left over for later .

So does the fluid in the bull gears run thru the filter? What type of oil should i use? AW46 weight hydraulic oil or the universal type tractor fluid. The tracor is in the middle of a field so i want know if I just can drain the main system or will the bull gear fluid contaminate the new fluid I put in the main fill port. Thanks

The oil in the bull gears (final drive) is separate from the oil in the rear frame unless someone has updated the housings to the later style. The change was to drill holes in the rear frame so that the oil could run between the rear frame and the axle housings. If it is updated the check/fill plug on the axle housing should have been cut off so that it can not be removed to indicate the change was made on that side. Some tractors out there have only one side done.

If you lost the steering and the tractor will not move out of the field you most likely have more problems than changing the oil is going to cure. What other symptoms do you have? Was there a change in noise? Do the rear hydraulics work? Does the PTO work?

Here"s the scoop. The steering wheel seal has been leaking for years, so we have been adding fluid eveytime we use it, which is not often. We ran tractor all day today with brush hog behind it. The power steering was on and off as far as working, and the rear lift arms would not lift towards the end of the day, however PTO worked fine. The tractor also started to surge on and off, like the TA was kicking in and out. Fluid was fine. Removed filter, very, very dirty. The screen was completelt clogged and there was crap in over half the holes in the filter. So I am trying to solve 3 problems, intermintent power steering, surging, and lift arms not lifting even though it was full of fluid. I though I complete fluid change might help, but if there is somehting else i should check, please let me know. Thanks

Go with the filter change first and see if it will get out of the field . What owen was thinking was that maybe the PTO input shaft and or the hub on the pressure plate went south , myself i do not think so at least not yet .as you said the PTO was working and IF that is working then the shaft that runs the MCV pump and the main hitch pump was still turning as the PTO has it's own pump but no filter to clog . So if the filter was pluged and the screen and bypass were pluged then yes you will have a no hitch and no steer and the T/A will kick in and out . as for your steering wheel leak Fix it it is not a tough job to do and on a nother day when it is not so late and i am not almost falling asleep i will out line the whole deal on just how it is done and the only Special toll you will need is a steering wheel puller and two LONG 1/4 inch fine thread bolts and a snap ring pliers and one socket . So let us know how all turns out .
