Radiator for Farmall M

My radiator repair guy said the metal was so thin and brittle he was afraid to put the radiator in the cleaning tank or to pressurize more than 10 psi. He soldered up the major leak in the core but said there are still lots of smaller pin hole leaks near the top that he was afraid to mess with. Also, a loose baffle inside.

Is it best to order a replacement or to recore using my old tanks? He said the recore would be slightly more expensive.

Also, does anyone know the OEM part number for a Farmall M Radiator?

find a good used one! the ones they make now dont fit very well and are veryyy tinny. i one of those new ones in for a guy and nothing wants to line up and there very poorly made compared to the OE

Andrew Z, do you know where that ill-fitting radiator was purchased?
I've seen replacement radiators to fit a Farmall M priced at over $700, and I've seen them priced as low as under $300. There has to be more difference there than just the price. Personally, I would not expect to be getting very much if I bought the cheap one.

Anyone else want to chime in with an opinion on aftermarket radiators?

Three different ones are listed in my parts catalog depending on the manufacturer. 352629R91 (IH made),351798R91 (McCord made) and 356511R91 (Modine made). These are assembly part no's. which include the two mounting studs and the pressure cap. I think they all will interchange on your tractor. A new M pressure type radiator is available on this site and is priced at $299.xx. Click on "Tractor Parts" near the top of the left margin to view. Hope this helps, Hal.

this guy actually bought it from a radiator shop that does good quality work. he spent 400 plus on it (but made in china job). im not sure were they got that one but i went down there and talked to them about it and they said thats the one there supplier carries. i too have seen the 700 plus ones you speak of but never seen one in person though.

Rusty, I looked in OEM's catalog and they at listed at $425. In Steiner's they are priced at $368. From the posts on this forum I would be inclined to try one from this site as they are priced at $299 which might be the cheap one made reference too. We have all seen enough posts on OEM's fit of stuff so I don't know if that is the source of the installation issues or not. It is a bunch of bother to get one and it won't fit and having to go through the return problems. I've never had to purchase a replacement one as they have always been able to be repaired by the shop in town. Maybe someone will post on the fit of one obtained from this site. Hal.

I sure would like to know if the cheap radiators are the ones that are poorly constructed and ill-fitting or if ALL of them are that way regardless of price.

You might be right especially if they are all made in China. I took the one on my 140 into the radiator shop just for a good clean out along with a couple very small leaks in the lower corners. The tech who repaired it said it is sure nice to see these old radiators as those made now are just junk to start with, Hal.

I doubt very much if there are any "made in USA" aftermarket radiators out there, but I'm pretty sure that not all of them are made in China either. I'm kind of thinking that the better radiators might come out of India.
