Wide Photos

In Charles Todd's great post on adding wheel weights I have to scroll side to side to read all of it.

Do you guys with wide screen monitors get to see that all at once, without scrolling side to side? Or do you have to scroll also?

Dell

I had to scroll with a 19".

If you use Photo-bucket to host your pictures, it is relatively easy to reduce the size of the photo, and then after adding that photo to a posting, click "preview" and you can see if the photo fits or if you need to reduce it even more. When the size of the photo fits the screen, then click "submit"

What comes up on your screen can be managed by
changing the resolution of your monitor from the
"Control Panel". That's a software adjustment, not
knobs on your monitor.

However, if you want less scrolling, you will have
to settle for smaller text as well. It all comes
down to a personal choice thing.

(quoted from post at 07:30:15 10/27/09) I wish people on here didn't use photobucket. The work computer won't let me see it. Dang filter crap.

Exactly.............
In my case, PB seems to be the only one blocked. But this site itself can pick the photos right from your HD without the other hosters.

I would prefer that MikeCA and Charles Todd put up smaller pictures.

I size my pictures so that side scrolling is only done once to bury the YTMag links on the left. This permits the entire thread to be read with only vertical scrolling. The photo hosting site will have size options that can be "set and forget" for all uploaded images.

I'm computer illiterate, so to be lazy, I download my pics into a folder to keep, then select them and choose "email" and get a box that asks if you want to resize. I say yes and then take all the smaller pics and have a folder named "upload pics" that I post from. I imagine those big pics are hard on a person w/ dial up.

I resize my pictures to be 800 pixels wide. I thought that would be big enough to see detail, but small enough to not cause problems. Are you saying they are STILL too big?

When folks upload to YT, the size is so small, you can barely see it's a tractor!

But why are you reading this forum at work? Isn't
that like stealing unless you are in the tractor
sales and repair business and reading this forum
might be in your job description?

So now I have to transfer all (over 300) of my
pictures to another site or join two sites and try
to remember which picture is where.

The picture hosting on YT is a joke. The pictures
are too small. I could understand the small
pictures years ago, but there is no excuse with
today's servers.

While we are on pictures, it really bugs me that
eBay has reduced picture size and eliminated the
fee supported large picture option.

Speaking of eBay, I won a $126.26 propane 400 hood
panel by $0.26 with a snipe 7 seconds before
closing last night. I felt kinda badly for the
only other bidder. If he reads this board,
contact me. I am replacing my old panel with the
new purchase.

Yeah, Mike,

For the most part, they are too big and are
probably an inconvenience for most readers, myself
included. Sometimes I only get the top half of a
picture when it is large. Don't know if that is
your problem or mine.

When I compose a photo, I'll try to use the camera
zoom to get detail when I need it.

Every once in a while it might be necessary to put
up an oversized photo. Landscapes such as row of
tractors might be one of those.

I resize my pictures by emailing them to myself and then downloading them. This pic is 640 X 480 pixels. Hal

I copy the "Direct Link" on Photobucket and the size appears good on my computer. Hope so on yours also. David...............

Your big pictures area pain because I copy a copy a lot of pictures and 90% of the time the part of the picture I am interested in WILL NOT BE IN THE PICTURE AND I CAN NOT GET IT NO MATTER HOW I MOVE THE PICTURE. Also having to scroll from one side to the other to read the coments does not impress me either. Armand

If I was to copy Ga. Dave's picture I would get from the front of the tractor to between the seat and the 3 point hitch triangle. More than half the time what I want in the picture is the back part and I can't find a way to get the rest of the picture. Armand

...Don't know if that is
your problem or mine...
It's not a problem. It's just you, and some others, either have older hardware, or you've chosen to set a low pixel rating on your monitors so you can see things easier. My laptop is set to 1440x990. My desktop is 1680x1040. So an 800x800 pictures doesn't even make a dent.

But that's me.

I crop and resize my photos before I post them. You don't need to see everything my camera takes, and if you think the 800 width was bad, what if I were to post it at 3000!

I'll resize for 600 when posting on YT. Hopefully that will help you all out, and still give you enough detail to see what I'm pointing out.

My digital camera download software (Canon) allows me to download to my pc any size I want to. All I do is choose the wide size and the software autmaically enters the correct height size.
If I am downloading photos for YT, Craigs, Kijiji or emailing family stuff I usually do it at 600-800 pixels wide which makes it about a 80-100 kb photo which is perfect for this forum.
Most magazines and newspapers want 3000 pixels wide so they want to do their own sizing, cropping and editing.
If I am going to make a hard copy photograph I also use the 3000 for the same reasons.
I personally dont see any reason for a huge photo here. If there is some detail you want to show go ahead and use your 1200-3000 pixel wide photo but crop the part you want to show down to about 100 kb before you send it here.
Just my too sense,

y desktop PC is set at 1680x1050 and very few photos are too large that I have to scroll to see all of it. Originally it was set at 1152x864 and this setting is much better. David................
