6V Gen VR

I have a 6V DR gen( 2 brush) & VR on my W9 as as I posted eariler the only it would charge was by grounding the Field. I replaced the VR and still no charge I grd the F and it charged. after I removed the grd it was still charging and the VR was doing its job. After shutting the tractor off and re-starting same thig. I rigged up a little sw to mom. grd the F each time I start and it works this way. WHy is this.

The VR MUST have a good ground to work... if it charges ONLY with the gennys FLD dead grounded but NOT OTHERWISE the VR isnt well grounded or is bad or mis adjusted or the wire or connection is bad from FLD on Genny to the VR's FLD terminal. Check n clean and insure the VR metal body has a good ground, maybe use a lil jumper n see what happens and check the VR's and Gennys FLD connections and the wire between

Or else maybe the new VR contacts got electrically "washed" or exercised or unstuck finally and may be fine from now on, if its no longer broke dont fix it lol.
