Farmall 400, need technical info

I need some technical information on the needle bearing that is on the lower shaft in the TA housing. I specifically want to know how many needles there are supposed to be in the bearing. I am repairing the TA in my 400 and have the TA housing out. A few of the needles fell out while the TA housing was sitting on the floor, I put them back in, but there is a gap where I believe there should be one more needle. Is it supposed to be like that, or did I loose one?

There might be a little space between rollers but not enough for an additional one to be inserted. On the other hand, if the rollers fell out the bearing is worn and should be replaced. A new bearing should be tight enough that the rollers can not come out.

FWIW, I replaced that bearing in a SMTA many years
ago while doing a TA replacement. I didn't like
the shaft splines or the gear splines of the LPTO
shaft it supports. I opted to replace the bearing,
shaft, and gear.

Mike at Steel Wheel Ranch fixed me up with a good
set. I doubt if I can find the old bearing but I
will take a look. I don't think the
needles/rollers should fall out with normal
handling

Thanks for the IPTO driving gear. I got it
yesterday and started a thread (with picture)
called "My Next Project".

There is enough space for another roller, that is what makes me think I lost one :( When the bearing is on the shaft, it really does not seem worn that much, no more than any of the ball bearings after 53 years of use. I checked with the Case/IH dealer, $110 for the bearing. NAPA can't cross reference the bearing number. I tried measuring the ID and OD of the bearing, but the measurements don't seem to match up with either standard or metric bearings :?

Here ya go. You count em. That way you'll know I
didn't make a mistake.

The needle gap is right around .0125". The butt
end of a 1/8" welding rod will just fit in.

I figured I owed you a favor. But not so much as
to try and drive it out and possibly wreck it.
Plus I would have had to make a driver.

Try this eBay store site for bearings. My search term was "roller". Try "needle" too.

My shaft measured 52.3 mm or 2.059". Search those too. You might need to round up but my shaft looked OK.

VXB Bearings at eBay. Punch me.

Thanks Wardner! The picture is just what I needed. I counted 37 rollers, which means I lost one, my bearing has 36
