340U Missing Link from draft control to draft valve

I just bought a 340U. I am missing one link to get fast-hitch draft control functioning.

I have the under seat shaft that rotates with the left hand draft control, all lubricated and working. The right hand end this shaft connects via an offset to the rear-connecting tel-a-depth and also to a forward connecting "missing link".

The other end of the "missing link" must connect to the 12" link that is currently connected to draft valve. I'm not sure this is stock though. This link runs rearward from the valve to about 3-4" under neath the seat, and has a right hand bend at the end.

I can share photos, just unsure how to do on this post. What does this link look like? Can anyone show me a photo? Greatly appreciated.

oops! the draft control lever is on the right and the offset connected to the tel-a-depth is on the left....I guess my kindergarden teacher would hang her head.

Hmm thought I had a picture of some of the 3-pt set up that i could show but no luck. I know have most the parts for my dads, he took them as it had been converted to the Hydra-touch style unfortunitly the parts are a few hours away. I was able to find this image on CaseIHs website though. From my understanding you are asking about number 25 in the pic which is the middle linkage from the two turning points. It has a gentle curve on the front end and a sharper one on the end towards the cylinder.

As far as posting photos on here, you have to upload them to a host website, such as photobucket.com, which I like as it is free and than put them in your message by copying the htmlcode or imgcode depending which forum version you are using (imgcode is modern, htmlcode is older style)

Hope this helps, again sorry I dont have a picture of it right now

This is everything I need. I can scale the image you provided and fabricate what I need from here. I likely have an adjustable clevis somewhere in stock to make the fabrication look pretty good. You are correct: item 25 is missing, but I have the rest shown in the image. Thanks for your help. I am switching from moving deep snow with my faithful '53 super C to this modern '59 340U and now it's late October and I need to get going!

One question: You found this image from CaseIH website? I have never made found the right link to search there, can you provide it?

Andy

Ya its kinda hard to find their parts search at first glance. If you follow the link below it will take you to the CaseIH NorthAmerica homepage. Than along the top of the page there is a bunch of links, hold your arrow over the one that says "Parts and Service" than mor options will pop up and click on the one that says "Search for Parts" Once this page comes up there are a couple paragrpahs and at the end is a sentence somthing like "begin you parts search right here" Just click on the link which is the "Right Here" and away you go.

This gets interesting. This is really a question to anyone who can walk out and look at their (working) 340. I bet almost any tel-a-depth machine will match.

Referring to the service detail breakout you provided.

I welded together and rebuilt my item #9. It had been rusted solid, and twisted off, some pipe wrench work before me. Item #11 is interesting it has an offset location where it bolts to #24, using shoulder bolt #22. Item #11 and item #2 are the action parts of the system, and they are both pinned to #9 with cold-rolled pins.

Question 1, since my #9 was in pieces, I'm unsure correct rebuild. So when the lever #2 is vertical, and rockshaft is rotated to lift the hitch full up, what location is the offset bolt #22 on the small wheel #11? Is it 12 o'clock or 6 o'clock? Maybe a little offset one way or other? Seems this will completely affect the way the thing works.

Question 2; the drawing shows link #21 connects to lower end of item #24. I could flip #24 around, but I think the drawing is correct. Does this agree with your working units?

With this information, I then need to make items #28, #27, and #25.

Thanks Andy

In answer to your 2nd question you are right in that it must be mounted as showing in the diagram otherwise it will likely creat a binding of sorts when the hitch is raised and lowered depending how tight it fits, or how worn the linkage is.

As far as your first question all that I have that may or may not help you is this photo that was taken a couple years ago. For as you can see in it, my dads 340 has since been converted from the tel-e-depth to a standard two way valve and the control lever is located up to the right of the steering wheel in dash. so all the old lnkage has since been disconnected and removed. Sorry I cannot help you more on that one hopefully another member will jump in.
