I am adding a few more PTO's to my 400. Total cost should be reasonable at around $200. I found a cheap source of bearings at VXB Bearings.

I will cut off the integral hollow shafts on the former IPTO driving shafts from SMTA, and 400-450. I will make new solid shafts that will be keyed to the gears. I would like to retain the original hollow shaft but the bearings are too large.

I will need to make four bearing retainers/seal holders. The 1-1/8th shafts will extend from both sides of the aluminum 4X4 block. The front end will accept a six or seven inch pulley. The rear end will take a three inch cogged belt bulley or U-Joint.

The RPM's will be at engine speed.

My thanks to Nebraska Kirk for sending me his old IPTO driving gear that he is replacing with a new gear having fresh splines.

What are you going to run with those? Electric, hydraulic, pneumatic? Maybe a freon compressor to keep drinks cold in a small frig while mowing your hedges?

Love how you think. Can"t wait to see pictures of the progress. I think the comment about a freon compressor to keep some cold drinks is a great idea.

I think that may be on the order of asking the man why he climbed the mountain. Personally, I can come up with a list of about two dozen things I would get done around this place before I start even thinking about a project like that one.

Too early to know what the PTO shafts will drive. It's kinda like "if you build it, they will come". That means the ideas or opportunities will surface at some point.

I do have a 150 CFM Sullair screw air compressor but that hardware takes up alot of space with the air receiver/oil separator. It also needs an oil cooler.

I am open to suggestions. What about a caliope? A pumpkin catapault or cannon? A portable bell tower? A welder might be useful.

When you think of all the planters and harvesters that IH engineered and built, you have to be impressed with the utility and imagineering that went into these machines. Maybe I can do myself proud with my own attachments. I must say that I do get bored going to a tractor show and seeing row after row of identical tractors. I go to see if any vendors have unusual stuff.

The mountain analogy is very apt. Sir Edmund nnalert replied to that question, after being the first to climb Mt Everest, with "because it is there".

My achievement won't be quite as grand but I have the tractor and want to make it useful. I am not a farmer but that tractor has to be good for something I can use.

I have already used the belt pulley gear, the top side of the IPTO driving gear (IH Electrall), the IPTO at the rear of the tractor, and the front of the crankshaft. I am also using both bull pinion shafts. I am running out of power points.

If you want to look at all that stuff, search on my name.

I am wondering if IH or an equipment mfg ever used the bottom side of the IPTO driven gear. You could actually run an unlimited number of shafts from that location. At some point I suppose you could run out of ground or side clearance.

Yep, the ice cream factory is still rummaging
around in my mind. I bought some stuff to make
that happen. I don't have a picture but it is a SS
ice cream storage and vending unit with a soda
fountain. It's all very compact and could plug
into the front or rear fast hitch. It even has
the NSC (?) sticker. That's a food service
equipment approval agency.

I'd let everybody make their own concoction and
charge by the ounce. If all they wanted was a full
cup of hot fudge sauce with nuts on top, so be it.

I went to the annual Dublin, NH engine meet last
month. The fire dept runs a twenty (or is it
thirty ?) quart freezer with a 10 hp hit and miss
engine. They only make vanilla and it is pretty
bland. I know I could do better with half a dozen
or more six quart freezers all running with
interesting drivers. Y'know, belt drives, shaft
drives, air motors, electric motors, hydraulic
motors, right angle drives, planetarys, variable
speed drives with governors, etc. I'm sure the
ice cream patrons would come up with some
additional interesting ideas. You might say it could be a hands-on gastronomic educational experience. Of course, it might get to be too "hands-on" and I would have to rap their knuckles with a switch. So be that as well.

I like the thought process going on there. I could think of a few attachments I'd mount permenently if I built something like that to drive them. A compressor and or a generator would be a start. Keep us posted on how this progresses Mr. Wardner Sir.
