M tires and wheels

Stoopid is as stoopid does according to some and here is a stoopid question. Do the rims on a Farmall M go on the outside or on the inside of the cast wheels. I have been looking at the wheels and it seems as if the indentations call for the rims on the outside. Thanks Henry

i think from factory it was an option for the activity your were doing. i have mine set in narrow with the wheel on the inside. a friend has his on the outside i like them better narrow

Original M tractor rims go over the outside of wheel and are centered with wheel by the clamps.
The stationary clamp, bolt and jam nut can be installed from either side of wheel. If the wheels are dished in or out the clamps could be installed so rim removes from the outside. Some later wide rims or widened rims don't have the rim drop centered. From the question or me not understanding the question I wonder if you have later model wheels. Do the wheels have 6 or 8 spokes?

They can be set any way you want that is how you adjust them to make it narrower or wider in the back plus you can flip the wheel center to do even more. So there is not really a correct way to do them it depends on what it is used for

Does your M have the original, drop center rims, or does it have the later double bevel trype rim such as what was used on the SMTA, the 400, and the 450?

Nope, just three. I can now see that any combination of rim to wheel will work depending on how you want the tires spaced. Thanks Guys for top notch answers all. Henry

I was completly off, thought you ment the rear rims. Fronts with the mounting loops were made to mount for different spacings. Think the most common way is the narrow position with rim loops on the inside of wheel.
