does any one know why ih used a436 in 986 and 414 in 1086.more cubes less power, less cubes, turbo more power.414 runs like a raped ape,and 436 seems to sluggish, weak, wont lug like a natural 414.any thoughts out there

Fuel economy. I don't think it works either if that helps. They use a different tip in the injection nozzle also and the pump has a different stop plate and settings which affects the torque rise. Most of this can be overcome if a pump shop wants to do it for you. Of course, a natural aspirated engine uses a different head with different swirl patterns so even adding a turbo doesn't get you to the same place as a factory turbo'd engine. Lot of them were hard starting also compared to like a 966 D-414.

You need to compare the 986 to the 966 since that is the model that was replaced. The 966 used a NA 414. By using the NA 436 in the 986 they were able to increase the horse power from the 966 and still use an engine that was cheaper to manufacture than the DT 414.
