I bought some property and lo and behold a 1951 h was in the pole barn. Runs good. It's been converted to a 12v. It had a 3 pt hitch put on it but I was wondering what it was used for in the beginning. In my manuals it shows some kind of contraption attached to the belly pump. Any ideas?
 
Well, that is kind of a general question. It was used to pull "stuff". And there were a great number of contraptions made to be pulled by it. Usually cultivators were the hydraulic "stuff" of choice back in that time. Or mowers.
 
I know I'm showing my ignorance. Thanks for your patience. My manual shows something like a bar attached to the belly pump and shows the high, mid & low position it can be raised or lowered to. It also states it was used to lift implements out of the ground. shoul I not fret over this & just use the 3pt.hitch?
 
Seriously, use it for what ever makes you happy. That 3 point has taken the place of the original hydraulic equipment and is more useful, except that you may no longer have hoses to run a cylinder on an implement?

Does it have a distributor pump to run the 3 point, or just the belly pump?
 
It's been a lot of years ago, but if I remember right, some of the mounted pickers were raised and lowered with an attachment that had a cylinder and was located near the belly pump. Not sure if that is what you meant, but is a thought.
 
when you say bar to control the pump, are you refering to the actuator rod? heres a pic of the rod on an m, pretty much the same set up as the h.

theres so many things an h can be used for, snowplows mowers, tow behind plow, mounted cultivator, to behind disk etc....dont fret about what used to be there and just use the 3pt hitch
