McCormick-Deering 22-36 another question

Attached are three images of the cylinder head.
It is in sad shape. I will need new push rods and new valves, no doubt (only have five and those not good.) Any suggestions on how to clean up the head? Will hot tanking do the job or do I have to scrape rust first? Thanks, Tom

I would use Electrolysis on it. Google Electrolysis rust removal to get the details. The valve guides will get toasted in the Electrolysis tank along with any other non iron items but from the pictures that would not be a great loss.

hot tanking is the way to go.when you take it in for repair thats the first place it goes, in the tank, standard procedure.

The guy at the machine shop will really like you if scrape as much as possible before you take it to him. At least try to get the loose, flaky stuff off.
