Hour meter question

Maybe a silly question, but the hour meter on my 706d is running fast. For example, bush hogging for 1 hour puts 4-5 on the meter (not in the tenths spot).
Does the engine RPM affect hour meter speed or do just I have a defective unit. Overall the wiring is messy and needs some work.

I would think the meter is defective if it is wired electrically. I have one on my garden tractor that's for 24 volts and I'm using 12 volts and it works fine. It was in with a box of new bearings at the military disposal sale. I bought a lawn trailer there too. Now they have moved the sale about 50 miles away. Hal

"Rent by the hour" ha ha
Seriously though I wonder how "real" the 6900 hours are on my tractor if it has been running fast.

The 706 has a mechanical driven tach, no electronics involved. Hours on the mechanical units are about real time at PTO speed. The drive for the tach and hour meter is all mechanical. Usually they either work or they don't. I have never seen one run hours fast. Unless someone has been mixing components there must be something going bad in the tach unit.
