I installed a rebuilt short block{310}and new gears and relief spring in oil pump. I am running 75 lbs.oil press at 2300 rpm.at opreating temp.IT manual says 35-50 lbs. What can I do to decrease the pressure? My gaskets seem to be leaking some ,thinking this may be do to to much oil pressure. I realize that this type engine can be very dirty do to oil leaks but dont like to see them on a new rebuild. Thanks

I am going on the assumption this oil pump is the externally mounted one normally used on a D-310 in a 756. Some applications used a internal pump with this engine. There are two styles of pressure relief valves, 756 should have late style. Just be real sure you used correct replacement spring, I am not 100 percent sure but I think the old one piece relief valve plunger used a stronger , longer spring. If you still have the old one try it and make sure the two plungers are installed correctly. Your oil pressure is way to high for that engine. Another thing on these engines. You have to be doubly sure you have correct oil filter. It needs the one with bypass valve in the filter. The filter for 400 series engines will screw right on also and it does not have bypass in it as it is in the base on those models.
