How can I replace that metal "spring" piece?

The arm on my H is missing the "spring" piece of metal you see at the top of this arm. It's supposed to hold the hyd. control rod down. But mine is just wide open. The cross pin looks like it's rivited, or something, in there. I have no idea how to replace this thing!

Where does a fella get a piece like that, including the pin? And how are you supposed to secure it on there "correctly"?

Any ideas are appreciated! (And Wardner, bring on the jokes! I don't think you can make a good one about this. :p)

Here's an EXAMPLE of an H arm with the piece I'm missing:

Mike, I replaced mine, and it the pin can be driven out with a drift punch. I heated mine slightly, applied a penetrating oil, then used the drift punch to drive it out. Actually, not a terribly difficult job.

Spring is available at your dealer or from many IH suppliers.
Just re-use the rivet or replace with a small machine screw.

I don't have the pin or the spring. I need them both, or need to fabricate them. So wondering what should be used.

I'm sure a machine screw would work fine, but it wouldn't look correct. I'm asking what that pin actually was, how it actually was fastened without coming out, so I can replace them both.

Mike, that pin is what I call a "roll" pin. It is sometimes called a "spring" pin. It is made of very hard stuff, but is split along the length on one side so that it can compress as it is driven in. "Roll" pins are quite common, but finding one that small might require you to dig deep, or maybe not.

Mike:

If rustyfarmall is right and it is indeed a roll pin, try an Ace Hardware if they have one near you. Take the arm along so you can find a pin that fits just right.

OEM lists one that looks to be a little better finished, their # 15137E (same # as IH), eleven bucks. OEM lists it for a SuperH, but I looked at the books and it's the same part # on both the H and the SuperH.
