Am currently involve with installing a rebuilt TA in a 400 IH. Question is,how do you get the TA back in the housing without bugering up the seal? It has to go against the lip on the seal and there is no room to work it around. Any help appreciated. Bernie Steffen

Take some thin plastic and make a seal protector to ease the seal lip over the rough area.
A freezer-type zipper bag from your kitchen should do the job.

Ah yea that is a tough one when ya do not have the tool as some have told you of there ways and all good ideas as you do not know how may of them seals i have replaced for guys that have done there own T/A instillations Also if one is super careful and one has a real fine dental pick or a thin brass feeler gauge and takes his time you can ease it in as you move the dental pick around to help the lip over the edge as you go in our do the same with the feeler gauge . I am lucky enough that i have the old tool for this as it was in a box of tools that i got from a dealer closeup . It is just about like sticking something some place that was not meant to be stuck some place use lots of LUBE also .

Wrap the shaft area with electrical tape, ending at the front so you can grab the end to pull it off after the assembly is in the seal. Just use a single layer with a slight overlap and oil it up good before assembling.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I borrowed the proper tool from the IH dealer where I bought the TA. Worked very well. Bernie Steffen
