Removing oil fill casting on MD

Trying to remove oil fill casting on my MD to install new gasket. It's held on by 4 cap screws. Bottom cap screws will not come out because the frame rail is in the way. There's gotta be a way to get them out without removing frame rail. Any suggestions appreciated.

If the torque tube, bolster and engine mount (front) are supported well from underneath, the rail can be loosened far enough to get them out.
Another way is to back them off as far as possible, clean and brighten with 200grit, the surfaces to be sealed, and put $2 permatex on the surface of one side. Just an even thin layer (use vinyl gloves). clean off excess with alcohol when tightened. JimN

Thank you Jim, for your response. I actually have a new gasket. Should I try to slide it down between the casting and block? I was going to use RTV on it, but will use Permatex No. 2 if you think it's better stuff. Thanks again.

Permatex #2 is far better for than RTV for doing that. Try not to build up very much, as excess squeezes out (and inward) and fragments may eventually disrupt the pressure regulators in the oil system. They are piston types and stick easily, particularly with the small debris that gets through the pickup screen. I kinda prefer to leave a central ridge and let it squeeze on it's own. Those old castings are very good at that, and will usually seal up (even without a gasket) very nicely.
