pulling crankshaft pulley on a Super C

Do any of you have any tips or tricks for pulling off a crankshaft pulley on a Super C? Looking at the parts book, it looks like it is held on by a half moon key, is that correct? Thanks.

It's a tension fit fore and aft, with the key to keep it from spinning on the shaft.

If you do a quick search on this forum, there's a gazillion threads on it, some with pictures of different rigs people have made for pulling them.

Basically you need a puller that braces against the end of the crankshaft, and pulls against the back of the pulley. Something along the lines of a bearing splitter or another rigging that spreads the pull out over most of the back side of the pulley is advised. Trying to pull it with a two or three jaw puller will only break the edge of your pulley.

If you do happen to have the crank out of the motor, you can pop it right off in a shop press.

You need a puller similar to this one made by Bigdog for his Cub using a bottle jack or a hydraulic ram. Hal

Here's a sketch I made. You need to check the hole dimensions to see if they clear the edges of the damper pulley. Hal

Here is the one I built couple of years ago to remove pulley from sons' SC and press it back on..HTH
