Does anyone have a good source for blades for this rotary cutter? I found a Case IH listing on the internet for about $250 a pair. Any cheaper places? I have a JD I may need them on also. Thank you.

There were two blade options for rotary cutting mowers at that time frame. One set of blades could be sharpened with grinder. The other style of blades needed to be sharpened by a blacksmith that had a forge to heat the blades and a power hammer to hammer the edge sharp while the blade was hot. My FIL had the latter style blades. Which style do you have? Maby a blacksmith will help with this explanition. Armand

Ill have to take a look. I believe they are just an offset style, one on each end of the arm. I know what you mean by the blacksmith but aint none here no more lol...

Take a blade off and take to your local implement dealer or farm supply. They should be able to match you up a set or send you to a place you can get them. They don't necessarily have to be same brand as cutter. A lot of differenty cutters use the same blade. $250 is a ripoff, should be a lot cheaper.

ALAN you should be able to buy blades for $50 FOR THE SET.Things we need to know such as hole size most are 1 1/2",width 3 or 4",thickness 1/4,or 3/8" or thicker, offset in inches,cw or ccw . I can help you if you want we ship and do not charge retail. Good luck GENE

look for a local tractor shop or welding shop that stocks TISCO items. They sell numerous width, length, and offset style blades. You should be able to find a match. I did.

Also, remember to bring your old shoulder bolts with you. They need to be changed, and TISCO supplies them also. There are numerous styles of these, and this is NOT an area you want to skimp on -----

in 1973, I was shredding, and one blade came off and ripped through the rear steel curtain of our shredder. TO THIS DAY --- WE NEVER HAVE FOUND IT !. Thank GOD it went backwards, and not forward !

Hammer sharpening toughens up the steel at the edge. You don't want them totally sharp either. We oil queched our blades after working them. Heat to a dull red and then dunk in oil. Water dunking will make the edge brittle. Grinding takes away the toughness that is at the surface of the steel and soon the blades will dull up in short order. Hammering also helps keep them balanced since no metal is removed, just reshaped.
