F14 fuel pump rebuild

Maybe I am missing something simple but how do you get the rubber diaphram off of the plunger and put on a new one?

Almost all of these have been rebuilt at some point and they have a nut that you take off and this will allow the diaphram to be pulled off the plunger. Every once and a while you will find one that has never been taken apart. Do you have one of these with no nut on the plunger? If you do I would look for another plunger from a parts dealer and replace it.

When I replaced the diaphram in the fuel pump on my F-12 I used a deep well socket, set the diaphram on top of it and used a punch to drive the pine out. Than used a similar process to put it back together after I put the new one in.

I ran into the same problem with my F-14 since it had one of the original fuel pumps that had not had the diaphram replaced. I just ground the top of the pin holding the disc and then just got a small stainless steel screw and drill and tapped a hole for it and put the whole thing back together. Worked like a charm.

Jason, Rice equipment sells the plunger and diaphram as one piece for rebuild. They have all the parts makes it very easy! oldiron29
