IH vs JD tattoo

Working on tractors ahs been a big part of my life for the last 6 years, ive owned more then most people I know and definitely more then anyone my age (18). They have really kept me out of trouble and set me straight in life from where I seemed to be going at a young age in with older kids and the wrong type of kids. I have this tin in my room of a Farmall M pulling against a John Deere G and I thought wow that would be really interesting. No matter where I go now tractors were at one point a huge part of my life, between going to shows and working on them with family. Oh yea its really helped the family come closer to My uncle bought a Farmall A and my cousins want to follow in my steps. So I figure that no matter what they will always have a meaning to me. I was thinking of getting my Farmall H tattooed on my back with a pull off of my John Deere 60? Maybe even the H pulling the 60 HAHA what do you guys think of this? im pretty much on the fence because it is permanent (pretty much)

Nothing is final I was thinking of doing this later on, maybe next year

Any polite input is appreciated?

Never was into them myself, and don't object to 'em, but don't have any. What you're describin' would seem like quite an elaborate and expensive tat. Me, I'd put the money into tools or another tractor.

Remember tattoos are costly to get and to get rid of. I personally would not have one, save the expense and pain, put it on a shirt you can put on and remove. To each his own.

Never do anything that you might want to get rid of later. My opinion is that it's silly. Of course I haven't been a teenager for 52 years, but they were silly then too.

Scotty's right, put the money into some more tools, or just sock it away for a rainy day. Someday that tattoo might chase away a good catch. Jim

You might regrett it later. I have had one for years and the older I get I hate having it more and more and I am 50 years old. Like I think Dave S.is the one said it, get a tee shirt. If you are 18 now and when you hit fifty, no one might not know what a Farmall H or JD 60 are anymore.

Perhaps a compromise is in order. Instead of a potentially large mural on your body, you should rethink the design. If you were to possibly get an outline of a tractor (maybe a classic styled tricycle) it could signify the importance of tractors in your life red green or whatever color, as well as be less costly and more tasteful. I also would recommend taking the money and purchasing tools. A man with tools and the knowledge to use them properly is always able to make money as well as save it.

Interesting, Thanks guys for the input! I guess i wont get it or put it off untill im older and more wise haha, oh well tools it is haha

Go with the "IH" tattoo. When some guy is kicking sand in your face at the beach and then picks you up by the ankles, he will read it as "HI". You might become BFF's.

.I think I would prefer "IH" contact lenses for the same reason. This would allow you to stay on your feet yet rotate the lenses when the mood strikes.

It sure looks like the 'Nays' have it on this topic, doesn't it? I also vote NO.

I agree with the others who are responding to your question as they recommend putting your money into tools and/or an investment account. I'd also vote for saving up for a good education. That would be one of the most important things you can do to guarantee your success in the future.

I doubt the tattoo will benefit you one bit (just my opinion). Personally, I don't wear any tattoos and have been very successful in my career and my family life. (I have earned four college degrees and am still going to school because I love to learn new things.) Sure hope you make the right decision.

I deal with hundreds of 18 to 40 year old "kids" Tattoos do not make anyone smarter or dumber. Very smart people have them.
From 35 years of teaching that group. (a new batch drifting in and out every year) the only advice I can give is that the ones without tattoos are hired for higher pay more easily. This is the eye of the employer speaking. In professional level jobs, image is a major factor. Where do you want to be, and how soon. I do not have any evidence that they are less smart, they are just discriminated against. JimN

At eighteen, you are not fully developed yet. Look up "frontal cortex" as it pertains to those under 25 years of age. Perhaps you will acquire a sense of humor and some rational behavior later.

Makes no difference to me though. I am not leaving anything to you in my will. Not even my extensive collection of dot head bolts.

You'd probably regret having that tattoo. As someone else said, you'd probably get more enjoyment out of the money by putting it into tools. For that matter, you could probably buy another tractor for what a tattoo that elaborate would cost.

A sence of humor? did you not read the last line of the first post

all I Wanted was a serious answer, not your bad jokes.

Thanks everyone else for your responce though! I really appreciate the feedback

I say "go for it". You only live once. Who cares, just figure out what you want & where you want it, cause it will be there for the rest of your life. Unless the employer asks you to take of your shirt or if you get "sleeve" tattoo's up & down your arms, you don't need to worry about it for a "professional" job. The last time I checked, there was not a question on an employer application that asked if you had tattoo(s)! I have both a professional job & a tattoo. Wish I would of got a tattoo of something else, but DONT regret getting the tattoo.

Ya know...you brought up a funny topic.
I went to a 45 year high school reunion a couple of years ago. Old friend went with me for the heck of it.
I noticed this one lady, and all at once just busted out laughing. I could not help it.
No, I did not embarress her in any way. Would never do that.
Friend ask me what the heck I was laughing about when we went outside for fresh air.
I ask him...do you remember that tatoo she had on her chest when she was a senior? The little yellow bird like in the cartoons? The one she had to show everyone? He said after a few minutes...yeah why?
I told him that thing must look like a plucked chicken by now. He laughed so hard he had to go for a walk.
Anyway, bottom line...it's your body. No one can tell you what to do with it.
Just be aware of what it may look like in 45 years.
If you do decide to get it, make darn sure the place is clean with clean equipment. You do not want to get something that will not wash off with Ajax.

Hey Pat. I have an idea....go for a piercing instead. That way you can change it out from IH to JD to whatever as the mood hits ya!

Just kidding....(warped sense of humor). But seriously, it is great to see that you have a healthy appetite for farm tractors at such an early age. I didn't get into the restoration part until I was in my mid 30s. And like you, I too am addicted. And finding, probably like you, that this addiction is a pricey one.

As for the tatoo, I'm too chicken to get one (hate pain or even the though of needles/pain) but I wish I could get a small one on my upper arm or something. Probably never will...so I'll just stick with enjoying the sticker kinds that my daughter puts on me from time to time.

Enjoy those projects! Let us know what you decide to do.

I'm 28 and got a tat on my belly when i was about 20 or 21 seemed cool for a few years but now kinda regret it. If you do do it make sure its in a place know one can see it like i did on my belly. Dont recommend your arm, like people said about employers dont like that stuff if they can see it. On your back shoulder is a good spot but then you cant see it yourself. I've thought about an IH tat cause I've been big IH person since I was about 15, but seems like when your young you go threw phases. Just my 2 cents.

A couple years ago I was picking up parts at the dealership. A nice lookin young thimg walked in and takes her shirt off half way down to show everyone her new JD tatoo on her shoulder blade. It certainly caught my attention.

Im near 34 years old now.I was raised in a farm community, surrounded by farm people.I know people, some friends that have them.Id never do it.I thought they were pretty dumb to do it,but I was raised not to do any of that weird stuff, like earings and tattoos,or long hair.I still believe in all the old views,no matter what year or time we live in,no matter how unpopular it might be.Be a self respecting, and respectful of others, upstanding person with your head held high.

Don't see anything wrong with it myself...I waited until I was 40 though...here is how I have my loyalty....

Did that make you feel better wardner? Way to be a @ss
Oh Pat, don't get so wound up. If you are really that thin skinned, life is going to be unpleasant. Just look for the humor in your own situations and smile. Life is a lot easier that way.

As far as the tatoo, I think you made the right choice not getting it. I'm in the Navy, and sometimes people think tatoos are required! But none for me, thanks.
As far as my Farmall, I show my pride with T-shirts.
