W-9 Carb

I have A W-9 stationary motor. ITs a Factory Deal but the block froze and busted. I also have a W-9 tractor and im trying to find a better carb for it. The Carb that came on the tractor has and 1-3/8 inch up draft. The one on the motor has over and 1-1/2 updraft. Why is it bigger than the tractors?

My specs show a 1 3/8" on both the U-9 power unit and the W-9 tractor. Your power unit carb must have been changed at some time in its life.

Hmm. Does the manifold match in size? Does it have an IH part number?

Obviously parts can be swapped but it may require the manifold as well.

Assuming it is original...

It may be a factory arrangement as power units had a lot of engineering tweaks done to them for various reasons. For example, the IH diesel injection pump books are full of variations in settings and governor parts of which almost all are related to power units operating at different speeds and loads.

A larger carb would have been used on a machine that is expected to run fairly well loaded at full RPM all the time. Efficiency under those circumstances would be more important than the ability to provide power at low RPMs or smoothness of idle. A tractor would be optimized for peak efficiency somewhere in the 60% speed/power range and is expected to run nicely across the speed range, while power units typically have only two positions, IDLE and RUN.

It won't necessarily run better at all, but will consume more fuel under light loads due to fuel dispersement problems caused by the drop in velocity.
